The Retirement FLIGHT Plan™

Every successful flight requires a detailed flight plan. So does every successful retirement. The Retirement FLIGHT Plan™ brings your income, investments, taxes, healthcare, and lifestyle together into one clear strategy for the journey from finishing your career, to retirement, and beyond.

1. Financial position

We organize your complete financial picture — assets, accounts, income, liabilities, and current strategies — so you can clearly see & understand where you stand today and whether you’re on track for retirement.

2. Lifestyle & Expenses

Then we calculate your current lifestyle: how much you spend now and will spend annually in retirement — including essential expenses, travel, hobbies, home projects, & the things that make retirement enjoyable.

3. Income Plan

Now we build a coordinated retirement income plan to support your complete lifestyle over time, accounting for Social Security, pensions, investment income, withdrawals, and the impact of inflation.

4. Growth & Investment

Then we design an investment strategy around your entire plan — seeking the growth needed to support your long-term goals while incorporating appropriate risk management as you move from accumulation into retirement.

5. Healthcare in Retirement

Your complete health insurance plan for the decisions that can have a major impact on retirement, including coverage before age 65, Medicare supplemental coverage, & long-term care considerations unique to your needs.

6. Tax & Estate

Then we coordinate strategies to potentially improve tax savings throughout retirement while helping you protect your estate, preserve wealth, and create a meaningful plan for transferring assets to the people and causes that matter most.

Our Founder's Story &  Our Unique 'Delta Connection'

Growing up, Alex Skijus, founder and CEO of True Life Wealth Management, watched his family’s financial situation get turned upside down — and unfortunately, it was never fully righted. That experience stayed with him and ultimately shaped his mission: to help the families True Life serves avoid the financial uncertainty and hardship his own family experienced.

During that time, Alex’s mother went to work for Delta Air Lines. From then on, Alex was a Delta kid through and through, growing up around the airline and having the opportunity to travel the world non-rev throughout his teenage years and early adulthood.

Aviation became a major part of Alex’s life as well. During high school and college he worked at Peter O’ Knight Airport in Tampa, Florida while earning his private pilot license. Today, both Delta Air Lines and general aviation remain a big part of his life. Alex owns and flies his own airplane and regularly uses it to visit clients across the country.

Our ‘Delta Connection’     (we are not affiliated with Delta Air Lines)

Alex’s mother was the first Delta Air Lines employee he helped successfully transition from her career at Delta into retirement. That experience became the foundation of what has grown into a deep understanding of the unique financial lives of Delta employees.

Since then, True Life Wealth Management has developed extensive experience helping Delta employees navigate their retirement decisions, including their 401(k), pension benefits, Social Security, investments, retirement income, and overall financial plan.

For Alex, serving Delta Air Lines employees is personal. It brings together his family history, his lifelong connection to aviation, and his passion for helping people successfully transition from a career they worked hard to build into a retirement they can truly enjoy.

In 2018, Alex stepped away from the traditional firms where he had previously worked to build something different.

He founded True Life Wealth Management with a simple purpose: to care for families as if they were his own — putting their goals and financial well-being ahead of a firm’s bottom line.

True Life was created to give people honest guidance, genuine care, a clear financial plan, and a long-term relationship with an advisor who truly knows them.

That remains the mission today.

Stories from True Life Clients

Dennis R.

Upon our first meeting at True Life Wealth Management, Alex put us at ease as he explained the historical ups and downs of the market and was attentive to our personal and financial goals. He also made us feel assured and comfortable that he and his company would always have our best interests as a priority. He has been a man of his word to keep us informed regularly, and he has guided us to be very comfortable with him talking care of our investments for the past several years!

Karen D.

What I like most about Alex is his dedication to each of his clients to making their retirement years the best possible.  I think he constantly asks himself “can I make this better?” I trust his judgment on his investment avenues and can truly say I don’t worry anymore about my future. How blessed we all are as his family of clients.

Alan B.

Retired at 60, yes! My wife and I have known Alex for many years and he’s been instrumental in putting together an overall life-long financial plan which enabled us both to retire by 60. We couldn’t be happier. He has the knowledge, experience, and drive it takes as a wealth manager to do what’s best for his clients and their goals. That includes turning us onto financial opportunities that we would have never known about. We’re glad we put our trust in Alex, as he is always a pleasure to work with.

FAQs

We developed the Retirement FLIGHT Plan™ to bring structure, clarity, and understanding to the retirement planning process, covering every check like an airline pilot’s detailed Flight Plan on a long flight.

Every client’s financial life is different, so every strategy we build is customized to their individual needs. But every client goes through the same comprehensive FLIGHT Plan process to help ensure each important area of their financial life is addressed as they prepare for and move through retirement.

True Life Wealth Management is completely independent. We build strategies from the ground up based on what we believe is appropriate for each client, without being tied to a parent company, proprietary product platform, or overarching managing organization. Our responsibility is to the families we serve.

We proudly work with families from many professional backgrounds across the country, while maintaining a particular specialization in serving Delta Air Lines employees. Our experience with Delta employees gives us an in-depth understanding of their lifestyle, retirement benefits, financial decisions, and the unique challenges involved in transitioning from a successful career at Delta into retirement.

True Life Wealth Management is not affiliated with Delta Air Lines.

True Life Wealth Management has developed deep experience helping Delta Air Lines employees understand and navigate the financial decisions that come with the final years of their careers and the transition into retirement.

We understand the Delta 401(k), Delta pension benefits, the Social Security offset and how it can affect retirement income planning, the unique retirement benefits available to certain former Northwest Airlines employees, Delta retirement paperwork and processes, and the retirement considerations specific to Delta pilots.

Our connection to Delta is also personal. True Life founder Alex Skijus grew up in a Delta family after his mother went to work for the airline. She later became the first Delta employee Alex personally helped transition from her career into retirement. Through that process, he gained firsthand experience with Delta’s retirement benefits, 401(k), pension structure, paperwork, and retirement decisions.

Since then, Alex and True Life Wealth Management have helped numerous Delta employees build comprehensive retirement plans designed around their unique benefits, goals, and financial lives.

For Delta employees who are still working, we help them make the most of their remaining career years by evaluating their 401(k), contributions and employer benefits, coordinating outside investment and retirement accounts, planning for taxes, and managing investment risk as retirement approaches.

As retirement gets closer, our Retirement FLIGHT Plan brings all of these pieces together. We help clients determine what they want retirement to look like, what it will cost, how much income they will need, how their investments should change as they move from accumulation to retirement, how healthcare should be coordinated, and how taxes can be managed throughout retirement.

The goal is to give Delta employees a clear, coordinated plan for finishing their careers confidently and moving into retirement with a greater understanding of how all the pieces of their financial life work together.

When should I start planning for retirement?

The simple answer is: as soon as possible.

Many of the families we work with tell us they wish they had started planning earlier. Beginning the retirement planning process sooner can create more opportunities to improve tax efficiency, evaluate 401(k) investments and fees, build retirement savings, consider long-term care planning, and make important financial decisions while there is still plenty of time to adjust.

Just as importantly, starting early can provide clarity.

Our Retirement FLIGHT Plan™ helps clients understand what their retirement will actually look like — when they may be able to retire, how much income they may need, how their investments should be positioned, what major expenses they can comfortably plan for, and how the different pieces of their financial life work together.

That clarity can make everyday decisions easier. Whether it is remodeling a home, traveling more, helping family, or deciding when to retire, clients can make those choices within the context of a complete financial plan rather than wondering whether they are making a mistake.

For many families, a great time to begin serious retirement planning is between ages 50 and 60. At that point, retirement is close enough to begin making detailed decisions, while there is still meaningful time to make adjustments before leaving the workforce.

You do not have to wait until retirement is around the corner. The earlier you understand where you stand and what needs to happen next, the more time you have to prepare for the retirement you want, and there’s no better way to do that than through a Retirement FLIGHT Plan™ leaving nothing unchecked.

Clarity, understanding, and confidence in your financial future are valuable at any age — and the sooner you have them, the better.

Yes. True Life Wealth Management is headquartered in Tampa, Florida, and we work with families in numerous states across the country.

Because many of the Delta Air Lines families we serve live near Delta hub cities and other major locations throughout the U.S., we are very comfortable working with clients remotely. We regularly meet by phone and video conference, making it easy to provide ongoing planning and investment guidance wherever our clients live.

We also believe relationships matter, so we routinely travel to Delta hub cities and other locations around the country to meet with clients in person and provide educational events.

Wherever our clients are located, our goal is the same: to provide a personal relationship, a clear financial plan, and ongoing guidance throughout retirement.

True Life Wealth Management uses a straightforward annual advisory fee based on the amount of assets we manage for a client.

As part of our Retirement FLIGHT Plan™ process, we also help clients understand the difference between an advisory fee and what we call their aggregate fee — the total cost of their overall investment structure.

The aggregate fee can include advisory fees, fund expenses, investment product costs, platform or account fees, and other expenses associated with their portfolio.

We believe it is important for clients to understand not only what they are paying us, but what they are paying in total. In many cases, we are able to identify unnecessary costs, simplify the investment structure, and reduce overall expenses while providing a more comprehensive level of planning and service.

Our goal is for clients to clearly understand what they are paying, what they are receiving, and how their overall financial structure is working for them.

How complete is your current financial plan ?

You wouldn’t take off without a flight plan. Why approach retirement without one?

Build your Retirement FLIGHT Plan™ with True Life Wealth Management and chart a clear course toward retirement — with a First Class experience along the way.
